According to the Elizabethton Police Department, Thomas Michael Salyer, of 6041 Highway 19E, was involved in two separate crashes within the city on Thursday, but he was not ruled at fault in either accident.
On Thursday afternoon, Salyer was involved in a minor accident at the intersection of Sycamore Street and Hattie Avenue. No one was injured and there was minimal damage to the vehicles involved. Salyer was not found to be at fault in that accident. Shortly after leaving the scene of that crash, Salyer was involved in a second wreck, this time on West Elk Avenue.
According to EPD officers on the scene of the second crash, Salyer was traveling on West Elk Avenue when he left the roadway, crossed five lanes of traffic and drove into the construction area for the new extension to Gap Creek Road. After passing through the construction area, Salyer’s vehicle then entered a gravel area where it spun completely around before coming to a rest in the parking lot of Smokey Mountain Medical Equipment.
Salyer was transported to Sycamore Shoals Hospital by the Carter County Rescue Squad for treatment after the second accident.
EPD officers stated that they believe Salyer suffered some sort of medical incident which led to the second accident. No charges have been filed against Salyer.
