The Carter County School System has received a grant for nearly $7,000 from Utrust to fund a system-wide educational program.
Utrust is an organization that was founded in 1980 as the Tennessee School Boards Insurance Trust. According to information from the organization, its mission is “to assist local school boards with employee recognition, appreciation and development.”
Carter County Director of Schools Kevin Ward applied for the grant totaling $6,900. According a press release from Utrust, Ward said he planned to use the grant for professional development to train K-8 teachers on using information gained from proficiency tests to identify students’ areas of academic need and develop individualized instructional plans to meet those needs.
Carter County is one of 52 school systems in Tennessee to be receiving “mini-grants” from Utrust, totaling more than $300,000 in awarded funds to improve educational opportunities for students.
“Utrust seeks to fund small projects that will make a big difference in the schools,” said Utrust Administrator Dan Tollett in a released statement. “We are delighted that Utrust can help Carter County Schools with this project and hope that it will make a big difference.”
