Arlene Monica Engle, 90, of Hampton, passed away Saturday, May 17, 2014, at her residence.
A native of Altoona, Pa., she was a daughter of the late Frank and Esther Baird Odell. She had lived in Tennessee for the past 18 years.
Mrs. Engle was a registered nurse. She graduated from the Mercy School of Nursing. She served as an Army Cadet Nurse during the Korean Conflict. She served in the Army for five years. She also had a Social Service Degree from Rutger’s College in New Jersey. After moving to Tennessee she was employed by Tony Seaton, Attorney for 17 years.
Mrs. Engle was a member of Boones Creek Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Harry James Engle Sr.; a son, Robert Harry James Engle Jr.; an infant daughter, Roberta Jean Engle; a sister, Carolyn Brandt; and her son-in-law, Jack Lee Berry.
Survivors include a daughter, Cecelia Jane Berry and her fiancé, Paul Davis, of the home; a grandson, Jack Leftridge Berry, of the home; and a very special friend, Brenda Nave.
Funeral services for Mrs. Engle will be conducted at 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 21, at Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Kenneth Kyker and Mr. Dwayne Calhoun, minister, officiating. Graveside services and interment will be at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, May 22, in the Mountain Home National Cemetery, Johnson City, Tenn. Pallbearers will be Dan Akers and men selected from the Hampton Christian Church. Military Honors will be provided by the American Legion and the Tennessee National Guard. The family would like to express a special “Thank You” to the staff of Mountain States Hospice, the church families of Boones Creek Baptist Church and Hampton Christian Church for their continuous prayers and support, Paul Davis and Brenda Nave and her family for being there to support us, Dorothy Baumgardner and Morgan Jenkins, a former caregiver. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Friends may also visit with the family at the residence. Family and friends will assemble at the funeral home at 1:50 p.m. Thursday to go to the cemetery. Condolences to the Engle family may be e-mailed to mfc@chartertn.net.
