JOHNSON CITY—An overflowing crowd poured into the lobby of the Carnegie Hotel as East Tennessee State University unveiled its newest logo inside the Grand Soldiers Ballroom on Wednesday night

It was the newest step in rebranding the university’s athletic department, one that just had its logo changed in the early 2000s.

“The old logo was great. It had a lot of success in the past 10 to 12 years, but we think it’s a whole new era,” athletic director Dr. Richard Sander said. “One of the things that we wanted was a consistent message that when someone sees this logo they will automatically identify with ETSU.
