Police are investigating a strange case of vandalism that damaged books belonging to the Elizabethton-Carter County Public Library.
According to police reports, the library Director Melodi Goff contacted the Elizabethton Police Department on Tuesday afternoon to report the vandalism.
“She stated that on this morning while gathering books from the book drop box she found approximately five books stuck together,” said EPD Officer Jon Frazier in his report on the incident.
”It was later determined the books were stuck together by feces.
“She stated she did not believe that the fecal matter was placed in the box by the person who had the books checked out; however she believes that someone has just thrown the fecal matter in the drop box,” Frazier added.
The police report did not contain an estimate for damages sustained by the library in connection with this incident, but Frazier noted Goff requested extra police patrol of the library and book dropoff box area.
