Jerry Hodges Sr., 72, of the Central Community, passed away on Tuesday, September 16, 2014, at Ivy Hall Nursing Home, following an extended illness.
Mr. Hodges was born in Banner Elk, N.C., a son of the late Paul and Jessie Berry Hodges.
Mr. Hodges had worked as a truck driver for Overnight Transportation and was of the Baptist faith. He both loved and loved playing Bluegrass music. He was a United States Air Force veteran.
Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Charlotte Clawson Hodges; three sons, Jerry Hodges Jr. and wife Debbie, Elizabethton, Todd Hodges and wife Brenda, Greeneville, and Steven Hodges and wife Jennifer, Unicoi; four grandchildren, Jordan Hodges and Hunter Hodges, both of Elizabethton, Allie Hodges, Greeneville, and Lincoln Hodges, Unicoi; and one sister, Mary Ryan and husband Richard, Chilhowie, Va.
A service to honor the life of Mr. Hodges will be conducted at 7 p.m. Thursday, September 18, in the Chapel of Peace at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, with Dr. Kenneth Jordan officiating. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Thursday, prior to the service, or at the residence at anytime. The graveside service will be conducted at 10:45 a.m. Friday, September 19, in the Mountain Home National Cemetery. Military Honors will be accorded by the Carter County Honor Guard. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. Honorary pallbearers will be the staff of Ivy Hall Nursing Home. Those wishing to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, at 9:45 a.m. Friday to go in procession. Those who prefer memorials in lieu of flowers may make donations to the ASPCA, 424 E. 92nd Street, New York, NY 10128-6804 or by visiting the website at www.aspca.org.
