Alice Stout

Alice Stout, 86, of Mountain City, Tenn., passed away on Tuesday, October 14, 2014, at Lake Norman Regional Medical Center in Mooresville, N.C.
She was a Johnson County native and was born on February 22, 1928 to the late William R. “Bill” Hicks and Sarah Evelyn Davis Hicks. In addition to her parents, Alice was preceded in death by her husband of 67-1/2, Carroll E. Stout, who passed away on July 12, 2014; infant daughter, Rita Diane Stout; sisters, Infant Helen Hicks, Hazel Adams, Rose Stamper, Bessie Swanay and Winnie Harper; brothers, Wayne Hicks, Fred Hicks, Frank Hicks, Herb Hicks, J.T. Hicks and Lester Hicks. She was the last survivor out of a family of 12 children.
Alice loved to work in her flowers, enjoyed quilting, and also liked to travel. She retired from Timberland Shoe Company after 35 years of service.
Alice loved her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and will truly be missed by those who knew her.
She was a member of Doe Valley United Methodist Church.
Alice is survived by her daughter, Linda Stansbery of Mountain City, Tenn.; sons, Dennis Stout and wife Kathy of Mountain City, Tenn., and Wayne Stout and wife Judy of Elizabethton, Tenn.; grandchildren, Mitchell Stansbery and wife Penny, Stephani Jarnigan and husband Josh, and Michael Stout; great-grandchildren, Carlisle and Jansen Jarnigan, and Joe Stansbery; sisters-in-law, Geraldine Hicks and Judy Hicks; special friends, Hilah Coleman and Gail Miller; and several special nieces and nephews.
The funeral service for Mrs. Stout will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday, October 17, in the Mountain City Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Sam Johnson officiating. The family will receive friends from noon until 1 p.m., prior to the funeral service. Music for the funeral service will be provided by Josh Jarnigan and Tom Adams. The committal service and interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be grandsons, Mitchell Stansbery and Michael Stout, grandson-in-law, Josh Jarnigan. Bob Stansbery, Tony Rhudy and Johnny Laws. Honorary pallbearers will be Edmond Manuel and Dr. Don Tarr. The family would like to extend a special thank you to all doctors, nurses and staff of Lake Norman Regional Medical Center.
