Lady Buffs fall at Reinhardt despite Wyrick’s big night

WALESKA, Ga. (Jan. 3, 2015) — Hayley Wyrick started off her new year knocking down 20 or more points for the sixth time this season, but it was not enough as the Milligan College women’s basketball team fell to Reinhardt University 66-50 Saturday evening.The Buffs dropped to 3-12 overall and 2-6 in the Appalachian Athletic Conference, while the Reinhardt Lady Eagles improved to 5-2 in the AAC, tying them with Union College who is currently receiving votes in the national poll.Milligan battled throughout the first half, tying the game three times and taking the lead twice, but in the final two minutes, the Lady Eagles scored seven unanswered points to go into the locker room leading 36-25.From there, Reinhardt maintained control of the game, never leading by less than 10 points, and despite poor 3-point shooting and only two made free throws, the Lady Eagles captured the win 66-50.Wyrick led the Buffs in scoring, totaling 21 points against the Lady Eagles while adding three rebounds and two assists on the evening. Allison Jones also scored in double digits (10 points) as she also made one of Milligan’s four steals on the evening.

Carmen Lockhart and Kateca Favors both led the Lady Eagles with 15 points scoring, while Payton Smith made four steals against the Buffs.

Milligan will travel one more time on Wednesday, Jan. 7 to take on the University of Pikeville in nonconference play before returning to the Steve Lacy Fieldhouse on Saturday, Jan. 10. The Buffs will compete against newcomer Bluefield College who only recently joined the Appalachian Athletic Conference. Game time is set for 2 p.m.
