Milligan Track and Field finds success at ETSU Invitational on Saturday

MILLIGAN COLLEGE (Jan. 17, 2015) – Two more national qualifiers and a host of personal bests rounded out the weekend for the Milligan College track & field team as they finished up at the East Tennessee State University Invitational on Saturday.

Senior Christian Brewer and freshman Joey Watson earned the two qualifying marks on the day. Brewer ran a personal best of 8:37 in the men’s 3000m race, earning him an overall fifth place in the event in a deep field of NCAA competitors. Watson, who nabbed a national qualifying throw of 15.95m in the shot put at Winston-Salem in early December, improved his personal best as well, throwing 15.97m and taking first overall in the event.

Sophomore Amber Grello took sixth overall in the women’s 3k, running an indoor personal best of 11:06, as fellow sophomore Sarah Collie ran in her indoor debut with a time of 20:44 in the women’s 5k.

For the men, Peter Mermilloid made his indoor debut with the men’s 5k, finishing with a personal best time of 16:45, while Joey Evans also earned a personal best, throwing 11.66m in the shot put event.

Milligan will send a split crew to the Appalachian State University Indoor Open and the JDL Fast Track Hilton Garden Invitational on Jan. 30 and 31. They will return home to Johnson City, Tennessee, the following weekend to compete in the ETSU Indoor Open on Feb. 6 and 7.
