BLUFF CITY — Elizabethton High School lost any chance it had of making it to state Thursday night.

Already having lost 30 points at the start due to forfeits, the Cyclones were eliminated after the third individual match, then Greeneville forfeited the rest to save for the finals in a deceptive 49-30 loss to the Greene Devils in the Region I-A/AA Duals at the Patriot Palace, an event won by Greeneville after a 57-22 victory over Sullivan East.

There was no margin for error, and after two pins and a decision against the Cyclones, Elizabethton had lost any chance of winning.

Two more matches ensued, including a first-period pin by Jordan Kacmar for Elizabethton, and then the match was pretty much called by Greeneville.

“Greeneville is one of the best teams around, and they have been for years,” Elizabethton head coach Donnie Shipley said. “They have won several state championships and have had several individual state champions come through, and we knew what we were facing.

“We gave them 30 points right out of the gate, and we lost a tough one at 113 (Seth Malone) that we needed for regional seeding down the road.
