Arnold Wayne Markland, 61, Roan Mountain, passed away Thursday, January 22, 2015, at his residence following an extended illness.
Mr. Markland was a native of Carter County. Prior to his illness he was a carpenter. He was a Free Will Baptist.
He was preceded in death by his father, Frank Henry Markland, and two sisters, Loretta Stevens and Linda Markland.
Survivors include a daughter, Mary Elizabeth Crawford; a son, Chris Stevens; his mother, Nellie Townsend Markland; six sisters, Jeannie Shell, Kathy MacRae, Betty Taylor, Sheila Markland, Sherry Clark and Carol Johnson; two brothers, Warren Markland and Stewart Markland; and a special aunt, Irene Townsend. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Graveside services for Arnold Wayne Markland will be conducted at 3 p.m. Friday, January 23, in the Moreland Cemetery with the Rev. Perry Markland officiating. Interment will follow the service. Family and friends will assemble at the cemetery at 2:50 p.m. Friday. Friends and family may visit at the home of his mother, Nellie Markland, 106 Orr Street, Roan Mountain.
