Elmer Hill

Elmer Hill, 95, 176 Bear Cage Road, Roan Mountain, Tenn., passed away Sunday, January 25, 2015, at Sycamore Shoals Hospital.
A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late James “Jim” and Susie “Sadie” Whitehead Hill.
Mr. Hill retired from North American Rayon Corporation. He was a member of Fork Mountain Freewill Baptist Church in Roan Mountain and was an avid walker.
Mr. Hill was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Joann Hill.
Survivors include his wife, Edna Street Hill, of the home; three sons, Ronnie Hill, Elizabethton, Randy and Diane Hill and Joe Hill, all of Roan Mountain; grandchildren, Travis Hill, Megan Lane, Michelle Hill, Angie Shaffer and Mindy Hill; great-grandchildren, Eli, Amelia, Jacob, Lexie, Noah, McKenzie, Madison and Macie; a brother, Bernie Hill and wife Faye, Roan Mountain; and sisters, Edna Woodby and husband George, Jonesborough, and Lola Johnson and husband Ed, Roan Mountain. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
A graveside service to honor the life of Elmer Hill will be conducted at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, January 28, in the Largent Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. Honorary pallbearers will be Bun Potter, George Woodby, Bill Street, Arnold Street, Jack Street, Ed Johnson and Randy Miller. The family will receive friends at Hathaway-Percy Funeral and Cremation Services from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday, January 28, prior to the graveside service, or at any of the family’s homes at other times. The family would like to express a special thank you to the doctors, nurses and staff of the third floor at Sycamore Shoals Hospital. Those who prefer memorials in lieu of flowers may make donations to the charity of your choice.
