Leonard “Duck” McCoy Oliver

Our beloved Leonard “Duck” McCoy Oliver, 76, of Denver, N.C., passed away on Saturday, January 24, 2015, at his home, surrounded by loved ones. He was born to the late Fate and Charlotte Hinkle Oliver in Hampton, Tenn. A loving husband, father, brother and grandfather, he was cherished by all that were blessed to be part of his life.
Mr. Oliver retired from Huntersville Hardwood Company in Huntersville, N.C., as a maintenance supervisor, and was a member of Union Baptist Church in Hampton, Tenn. He was a United States Army veteran.
He is survived by his wife and faithful companion, Liz Oliver; three sons, Bryon Oliver, Sherrills Ford, N.C., L.J. and Christina Oliver, Jacksonville, Fla., and Allen and Denise Oliver, Jacksonville, Fla.; a daughter, Denise and John Jernigan, Denver, N.C.; and eight grandchildren, Luke, Samantha, Olivia, Chloe, Delina, Elizabeth, Lilly and Jacob. In addition, he is survived by his loving brother, Allen “Mick” Oliver, Elizabethton, Tenn., and four sisters, Pansy Fletcher, Butler, Tenn., Mary Atwood, Hampton, Tenn., Glenda Norris, Elizabethton, Tenn., and Brenda Gray, Roan Mountain, Tenn.
A service to honor the life of Leonard “Duck” McCoy Oliver will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, January 28, at Union Baptist Church in Hampton, Tenn., with Rev. Danny Bright officiating. Music will be under the direction of Mary Nave. The family will receive friends at the church from 1 until 2 p.m. Wednesday, prior to the service. The graveside service will follow in the Union Baptist Church Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Lincoln County, 900 Donita Drive, Lincolnton, NC 28092; or to the American Cancer Society.
