The Lady Cyclones ( 23-0, TRC 11-0) celebrated senior night with style, holding the Johnson County Lady Longhorns to only 13 points Friday night inside of John Treadway Gym.

Kelci Marosites led the Lady Cylones in scoring as she posted 20 points during Elizabethton’s 79-13 win. Kayla Marosites followed closely behind with 18.

However the true stars of the show were seniors Kyra McCrary, Megan Pietrowski, and Sarah Robinson.

“The first thing I want to say about them is what kind of people they are,” Elizabethton coach Len Dugger said. “They are kids. They are great students. They are outstanding students. I appreciate those three for the commitment and contributions they have made to this team.”

For the three seniors, tonight was a special night for many reasons.

“I don’t think it has hit us quite yet that it is our last home game,” EHS senior Sarah Robinson said. “It is great to have the support of the fans and the support of our teammates. They decorated the locker and everything for us, and it is just really fun and a great time.”

Being a senior makes having a winning season even better, Robinson said.

“It just make your last year a lot more special,” Robinson said about the Lady Cyclones big season. “When you’re winning it just makes things a lot easier. You don’t have to worry about things as much. It makes leaving a lot easier.

At the end of one, the Lady Cyclones, who applied their tough full-court press, had pushed out to a whopping 28-4 lead.

In the second, the Lady Cyclones orchestrated a 16-point drive to grab a 49-8 lead. Going into the locker room, ’Betsy was up 47-6.

The third frame saw EHS open up the period with a three pointer from Kelci Marosite, giving the Lady Cyclones the momentum to score 19 points while holding Johnson County scoreless.

At 4:38 in the fourth , the Lady Cyclones’ three seniors came back on to the court as a nod to senior night.

“I just wanted bring them out one last time at the end there and let everyone give them a hand,” Dugger said.

In preparation for the future, Dugger sent in some of the younger girls to grab some much needed playing time.

“That was basically our JV and sophomores,” Dugger said. “Those sophomores who were out there in the fourth quarter are going to have to step up and play roles next year.”

Next up for the Lady Cyclones is a trip to Sullivan South on Tuesday to take on the Lady Rebels.
