J C Carr, 87, of Bluff City, passed away Thursday, February 12, 2015, at the James H. Quillen VA Medical Center. He was born in Carter County, Tenn., a son of the late Elkana “Cana” Clarence and Dora Rena Shipley Carr. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn Eads Carr; eight sisters and two brothers; and a special grand dog, “Bailee.”
“Jay” was a carpenter by trade and owned a construction business. He was an avid reader and a talented woodworker in which he designed the tools to create his art. In addition to his woodworking talent, he was an avid NASCAR fan and rooted for Fords which meant he only owned Ford trucks and cars. He was a veteran of WWII and the Berlin Airlift, having served in the Army – Air Corps as a hydraulic specialist and a flight engineer on the B-29.
Survivors include his daughter, Debbie Jenkins and husband Arigle, whom he thought of as a son; granddaughters, Alice Carr and Jennifer Jenkins White and husband Brandon; three sisters, Ann Dula, Wanda Minton and Ollie Bradley; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral service for J C Carr will be conducted at 6 p.m. Sunday, February 15, in the chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home, Bluff City, with Rev. Frank Osborne and Earl Richards, Eulogist, officiating. The family will receive friends from 4:30 to 6 p.m., prior to the service in the chapel. The graveside service and interment will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, February 16, in the Morning View Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers will be Steve Morris, Bob Morris, Charles Morris, Frank Eads, Ronnie Holt, Bob Miller and Mike Carter. Everyone will meet at the cemetery at 10:50 a.m. Monday. Military Honors will be rendered by the Boone Dam VFW Honor Guard.
