After coming unleashed in the first half, the Bulldogs rolled to a first place finish, winning 82-51 over the South Greene Rebels.

Coby Jones spearheaded the Bulldogs’ attack, bringing in 30 points. Valentine followed up with 18.

“It was one of our goals to win the district championship,” Hampton coach Ned Smith said. “It gives us a better seeding going into the regional tournament.”

In the first period, the Bulldogs were explosive. After a 15-point run, the Bulldogs were able to close out the first period up 20-6.

The second frame saw the Dogs conduct another large run, going 13-2 to push out to a 33-8 gap.

“I thought our defense turned it in offense,” Smith said. “We moved the ball really well. We had good team chemistry tonight.”

In the third quarter, Hampton gave up some speed, while being outscored 22-11. After three, the Dogs were up 54-39.

In the fourth, Hampton regained its momentum, outscoring the Rebels 28-12.

After the game, Jones was recognized as the tournament MVP. Valentine was named the all-conference player of the year, while Cheyenne Camillo and Jones were both named all-conference players. Nathan Norris and Adam McClain were named all-tournament players.

Hampton will begin regional play this Tuesday at 7 p.m. at home.
