Moose passed away Saturday, February 28, 2015, at Franklin Woods Hospital after a battle with cancer. He was born March 19, 1939, in the small coal mining town of Palmer, Tenn., to the late W.T. and Dovie Brown.
Mr. Brown spent most of his life in the Chattanooga area, graduating from Chattanooga High School. He attended East Tennessee State College on a basketball scholarship for three years and after serving in the Army, returned for one more year on a basketball scholarship and graduated from East Tennessee State University. He was inducted into the ETSU Basketball/Baseball Hall of Fame in 2002 and into The Chattanooga Greater Sports Hall of Fame in 2003.
He worked seven years for the State Department of Education and then began working at East Tennessee State University where he retired after 27 years of service in the Technology Department. He was a very active and long-time member, serving both as an elder and Sunday School teacher, of Shenandoah Presbyterian Church, Johnson City.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Tom and Doug Brown, and sisters, Thelma Kuismi and Mildred Easterly.
He is survived by his wife Amy of 56 years; two sons, Garland, Oceanside, Calif., and Kevin and wife Courtney, Cleveland, Tenn.; a daughter, Jan Royston and husband David, Johnson City; two grandsons, Forrest Gentry, Elizabethton, and Nathan Gentry and wife Stephanie, Burkburnett, Texas; a step-grandson, Wesley Royston, Gray, Tenn.; a great-granddaughter, Chloe Gentry, Chilhowie, Va.; two step-grandchildren, Russell Wilkinson and Aleena Guyette; a sister, Jessie Adams, Soddy-Daisy, Tenn.; and numerous, very dear golfing buddies.
The family will receive friends at Appalachian Funeral Home from 1 to 3 p.m. Wednesday, March 4, followed by a memorial service officiated by David Light, Shenandoah Presbyterian Church. The Eulogy will be delivered by son, Kevin, and music by Janet Pickle. The family requests that friends join them following the memorial service for sharing memories. Interment will be at the VA Cemetery at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, March 5.
