Junior striker Pedro Teixeira scored a four-goal hat trick Tuesday evening as Elizabethton handed visiting Happy Valley an 8-0 defeat in boys soccer.

The Cyclones (4-1, 1-0 conference) had just one unassisted goal in the contest, and scored three goals off corner kicks.

“Main focus today was to put the ball in the net and pass the ball around a little bit,” Teixeira said. “And of course to defend. Coach told us from the beginning, don’t let them score. We wanted to maximize our goal differential, and we did.”

A defensive mistake led to the first goal of the contest and was the only unassisted one. Daniel Bolognese took possession outside the HV scoring box on a pass intended to go deeper by Warriors goalkeeper Wyatt Hall and Bolognese drilled a one-time high shot past him for a 1-0 EHS lead.

Bolognese’s tally came in the sixth minute of play, and EHS’ next two goals came just one minute apart in the 14th and 15th minutes as Jacob Kacmar scored on a feed from a corner kick by Michael Robinson. The next Cyclones goal came from Teixeira off a feed from senior Isaac Fife, who totaled a goal and three assists.

“We practice set pieces all the time, and Pedro made some good runs,” Fife said. “I hit him twice. Our movement on set pieces has been much better and on free kicks. We are just trying to get better and better each game.”

EHS scored in the 25th minute with Fife once again assisting on a Teixeira tally to give the Cyclones a 4-nil lead, and in the 38th minute Josh Smith scored on a pretty pass from Bolognese. Bolognese took possession near the spot, where he first scored and spotted Smithmaking a run into the box between two HV defenders.

His pass split the two defenders leaving Smith one-on-one with Hall and Smith beat himlow to give EHS a five goal first half advantage.

“It’s nice to score on head balls in set pieces and get some consistency of service on those,” Cyclones head coach Bill McClay said. “Their keeper came up with some big saves. We had some really good shots in thefirst half. We had one hit the crossbar once and another hit a post.We tried to dribble a little too much and Happy Valley stayed backand we dribbled ourselves into a few bad situations.”

Fife once again found Teixeira in the box early in the second half on a corner kickand Teixeira headed it past second half GK Thristian Pate for a 6-0 EHS lead. Teixeira got his hat trick in the 48th minute with an assist from Dante Callahan.

In the 70th minute, Teixeira returned the favor to Fife by assisting on his goalto complete the scoring for the contest.

In all, EHS fired18 shots at HV goalkeepers, who were up to the challenge on most of them – stopping 10-of-18 shots – in a match where they found themselves challenged offensively as the Warriors (0-5, 0-2) managed just two shots on the Cyclones goal.
