Myrtle Sims

Myrtle Sims, 92, of Elizabethton, went home to be with her Lord on Wednesday, March 25, 2015, at Hermitage Health Care Center following an extended illness.
Myrtle was born in Carter County, a daughter of the late Dan and Dottie Ward Merritt. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Bate Sims; her daughter, Frances Sims, in 1983; and her sister, Ruth Oxendine.
Mrs. Sims was a homemaker and a member of Hampton Church of God. She liked to play bingo and grow tomatoes and flowers.
Survivors include two sons, Joe Sims and wife Anna, Jonesborough, and Teddy Sims and wife Bonnie, Elizabethton; two brothers, Rev. Bobby Merritt and Rev. Billy Merritt, both of Elizabethton; six grandchildren, Alice Wilson, Gina Birchfield, Amy Jones, April Wilson, Jody Sims and Logan Smith; 14 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Virginia Wakeford.
A service to honor the life of Myrtle Sims will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 28, in the Chapel of Peace at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, with Rev. Tony Birchfield and Rev. Hobert Bradshaw officiating. Music will be under the direction of Angie Searls and Brenda Deloach. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. Saturday, prior to the service, or at the residence at anytime. The graveside service will follow at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be Ornel Burker, Daniel Birchfield, Michael Sims, Dustin Sims, Anthony Wilson, Logan Smith, Harold Presnell, Mac Presnell, Ronnie Merritt and Donnie Merritt. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of Hermitage Health Care Center for all the love and care extended to Mrs. Sims during her illness.
