Hershiel Fleenor

Hershiel Fleenor, 93, of Elizabethton, went home to be with his Lord, Sunday, August 30, 2015, at the James H. Quillen VA Medical Center. He was born December 7, 1921 in Andover, Va., to the late Alonzo and Myrtle Watts Fleenor.
Mr. Fleenor had lived most of his life in Carter County. He was an Army Veteran of World War II, having served in the European and African Theaters, and was a recipient of the Bronze Star. He was a retired welder and machinist.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Robert Fleenor; a grandson, Michael Fleenor; and seven siblings.
He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Irene Carden Fleenor; two sons and daughters-in-law, Gene and Gail Fleenor, Elizabethton, and Jerry and Patricia Fleenor, Kingsport; a daughter and son-in-law, Linda and James Gresham, Gray; eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Hershiel Fleenor will be conducted at 8 p.m. Tuesday, September 1, at Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Tommy Maines and the Rev. Gene Fleenor officiating. Music will be provided by Jennifer Woodby and Hannah Woodby. Graveside services and interment will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, September 2, at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers, who are requested to assemble at the funeral home at 10:20 a.m. Wednesday, will be Shane Fleenor, Sam Booher, Todd Weaver, James Gresham, Kelly Buckles, Josh Wilcox and Kent Harris. Military Honors will be provided by the Carter County Honor Guard. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Friends may also visit with the family at the residence of a son and daughter-in-law, Gene and Gail Fleenor, 113 Grandview Circle, Elizabethton. To those who prefer, memorials may be made in memory of Mr. Fleenor to the Carter County Honor Guard, P.O. Box 1704, Elizabethton, TN 37644.
