Lewis “LD” Guinn

Lewis “LD” Guinn, 76, 313 East H Street, Elizabethton, Tenn., passed away Sunday, October 4, 2015, at Johnson City Medical Center following an extended illness.
A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late Claude and Rachel Puckett Guinn.
“LD” retired as a bread man from Flowers Bakery. After his retirement he worked as a funeral assistant with Hathaway-Percy Funeral Home for 10 years. “LD” was a member of Southside Freewill Baptist Church, Elizabethton, where he served as deacon. He was a great handyman and was known as Mr. Fix-it.
“LD” loved his family and was an avid NASCAR fan. He especially enjoyed attending the Rod Runs in Pigeon Forge every year with his family.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Mack Guinn, and a half brother, Tom Puckett.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Ruby Birchfield Guinn, of the home; a son, Randy Guinn and his fiancée Kristin Powell, Elizabethton; a daughter, Julie Canter and her husband Westley, Jonesborough, Tenn.; grandchildren, Stacey Guinn, Austin Guinn, Logan Guinn, Westley Canter Jr. and Mercedes Canter; several great-grandchildren; and brothers and sisters, Lucille Owenby, Pauline McKinney, Erma Lee Stevens, Rose Lewis and her husband Gordon, Louise Whitehead and her husband Carmen and Ed Guinn and his wife Dean, all of Elizabethton. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
A service to honor the life of Mr. Lewis “LD” Guinn will be conducted at 7 p.m. Wednesday, October 7, in the Sunset Chapel of Hathaway-Percy Funeral and Cremation Services with Pastor Steve Burleson officiating. Music will be under the direction of Mr. Jeremy Burleson. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday or at the residence at other times. The graveside service and interment will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, October 8, at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be Dave Ferguson, Charlie Birchfield, Steve Birchfield, Wesley Whaley, Westley Canter Jr. and Stacey Guinn. Honorary pallbearers will be Jack Smith and Logan Guinn. Those wishing to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at the funeral home at 10:15 a.m. Thursday to go in procession to the cemetery.
