Police arrested a Carter County man late Monday night after his wife reported the man choked her and pointed a firearm at her during an argument.
Officers of the Carter County Sheriff’s Department arrested Christopher Lynn Richardson, 35, of 137 A. O. Buckles Road, Elizabethton, and charged him with aggravated domestic assault and reckless endangerment.
Sheriff’s deputies responded to the home on A.O. Buckles Road after a woman called 911 and reported her husband had assaulted her.
“Upon our arrival, Constable Tim Lyons already had Christopher Richardson in custody,” CCSD Deputy Tylor Johnson said.
Officers then went inside the home and spoke with a woman who identified herself as Richardson’s wife.
“(She) stated that Mr. Richardson came home highly intoxicated wanting his firearm,” Johnson said, adding the woman told Richardson he did not need the gun because he was intoxicated. “Mr. Richardson then started to throw a fit and got very mad then he pushed (her) and choked her.”
The woman told officers she was able to briefly get away from her husband but he caught her and once again began choking her and also struck her in the mouth, Johnson said. The woman was able to break free again, Johnson said, and this time was able to call 911.
“That’s when Mr. Richardson went and grabbed his gun, went to the backyard, fired a single round off then pointed the firearm at (the woman), then ran off,” Johnson said.
Constable Lyons arrived on scene and detained Richardson until the Sheriff’s Department officers arrived.
Richardson was transported to the Carter County Detention Center where he remained under a $10,000 bond on Tuesday. He is scheduled to appear in General Sessions Court later this week to be arraigned.
