The faculty and staff at Keenburg Elementary School recently hosted a special day to celebrate the academic achievements of the school’s students.
The school has been named by the state as a Level 5 School for the students’ achievements and growth on the TCAP testing completed last year. A Level 5 School is the highest score a school can receive.
All parents, students, faculty and community members were invited to celebrate the school’s success. Keenburg Elementary Principal Jason Hartley wanted to have a special day to recognize the students and faculty for their hard work and achievement. Students who scored proficient or advanced received a medal. The students that showed exceptional growth were also awarded a medal. The top scoring student and the top gaining student from each grade level received a trophy. The highest achieving teacher in each subject area was also awarded a trophy.
“I am very proud of our school’s growth and achievement,” Hartley said. “I truly feel that Keenburg is the best school around.”
Carter County Director of Schools Dr. Kevin Ward attended the celebration and praised Keenburg’s faculty and students for their achievement and hard work last school year. He congratulated the school for scoring a Level 5 last year in growth and encouraged Keenburg’s students and faculty to try to repeat the Level 5 score this year.
As part of the celebration, Hartley and several of the school’s teachers allowed the students to color their hair orange for achieving the school goal in math from last year.
Keenburg had a wide variety activities for students and faculty to enjoy, such as karaoke, dances, cornhole competitions, basketball, face painting, Wii games and more. Students also had a celebration parade in the gym and enjoyed cake and goodies for their hard work.
Keenburg Elementary School would like to give a special thanks to each of the following businesses for donating items to help make this a special day: Nanny’s Country Kitchen, Food City, Ingles, City Market and Dino’s.
