Students from East Side Elementary’s Early Learning Center visited the Elizabethton Fire Department Wednesday. They cheered for Captain Rusty Barnett as he climbed the ladder and learned about “stop, drop and roll.” They sprayed water from the hoses and shook a firefighter’s hand while he was wearing his protective gear, and they got to try it on themselves. They learned about the importance of having working smoke detectors in every room of the house, how to react if there is a fire in the home and that firefighters are friends who arrive to help.
