Elizabethton High School’s Future Business Leaders of America has worked charitably with the Elizabethton Carter County Animal Shelter for years. In 2015, members assisted with three adoption drives and will volunteer at a fourth on December 12 at Tractor Supply.
They are currently hosting a supplies drive through November 18, in which donations may be delivered to Elizabethton High School or to the shelter. Items needed are cat and dog treats, cat and kitten dry food, cat toys (any kind), dog and puppy dry food, dryer sheets, equine fresh pine pellet bedding, fleece blankets, Frontline flea spray, kitten bottles, kitten milk replacement powder, kitty litter, Kong toys for dogs, legal pads, old towels, paper towels, pet taxi (hard plastic) carriers, puppy milk replacement powder, rolling cat cages, small cat and dog beds.
FBLA member Maggie Brummitt said that donating used goods should be easy and affordable, especially for pet owners.
“If you have a pet that has outgrown their toys or bed, you can bring those,” said Brummitt. “They welcome old sheets and towels that people don’t use also.”
Brummitt, said the shelter is one of their main projects, and that numerous members including sponsor Robin McKamey have adopted animals from the shelter and want to encourage others to do the same.
They volunteer each month at the shelter and are always looking for ways to improve adoption rates and quality of life for animals in Carter County.
