Shop Small Saturday spotlights sales at local businesses

This Saturday, check out the business flyer organized by the City of Elizabethton and the Elizabethton/Carter County Chamber of Commerce, which provides details of Shop Small Saturday specials at over 14 local businesses. Sale times vary by location.
“We need to be mindful of local business owners and that they are the backbone of our community,” said Chamber Executive Director Tonya Stevens.
The holiday was created by American Express in 2010 as a way to promote shopping at local businesses which may be overlooked in the glow of chain retailers’ Black Friday blowouts.
“They know that it’s difficult to compete with big box stores, so this was a great way to incorporate small businesses,” said Stevens.
Local business owners have extraordinarily inviting deals and offers to those interested in purchasing quality products and investing in their local economy.
“You not only have them on the Saturday after Thanksgiving, they’re here all year and trying to make a livelihood and an impact,” said Stevens. “It’s very important to not overlook our small business owners.”
From Elizabethton to Hampton, shoppers will find deals like 50 percent off furniture, free wine tasting, 20 percent off gifts and coffee by the pound, 10 percent off a meal and multiple opportunities to register to win free gifts.
Participating businesses include but are not limited to Whimsical and Witty, Barnett’s Guns in Hampton, Cannon’s Fine Home Furnishings and Interiors, Doe Valley Printing, The Coffee Company, Phatboy Landscapes, The Southern Restaurant, Ritchie’s Furniture and Appliances, East Side Liquor and Wines, Reed Pharmacy, Vaughn’s Liquidations, Big Johns Closeouts, Bob’s Dairlyand and Computer Pros.
