“Our boys did a good job of spreading the ball around tonight,” Hampton head coach Ned Smith said.

Hampton senior Nathan Norris spearheaded the Bulldogs’ scoring with 19 points. He was followed up by Wyatt Lyons, who chipped in 14, while Chris Holtsclaw netted 12 and Coby Jones posted 10. Jones also had seven steals on the night.

In the first period, the Bulldogs were able to out pace Chuckey-Doak 15-10. However, it was in the second frame when the Bulldogs really got things going.

Norris, who had set out some of the first quarter after getting sick, started out the second frame with a 6-point run. Norris went on to have ten points in the frame.

“He got him some rest and came right back in,” Smith said. “He came back in the second quarter and played real well.”

The Bulldogs out ran the Black Knights 31-18 in the second quarter to head into the half up 46-28.

The Bulldogs went on a 9-2 run in third, giving them a 21-point lead with less than two minutes left in the quarter. However, the Black Knights scored six unanswered points in the last minute to send the teams in the fourth with Hampton up 63-46.

The Bulldogs had another big quarter in the fourth, posting 32 points to C-D’s 12. Hampton closed out the game with a bang, scoring 16-straight points in the last three minutes of the game. Lyons had six points in the final quarter, while Holtsclaw provided a bucket and a three.

The Bulldogs will host Grainger Saturday for Senior Night.

“Grainger is a tall athletic team,” Smith said. “They are a really strong team. They beat us by 12 or 15 last time. So they are a good AA team coming in.”

The Lady Bulldogs came out hot but could not keep up pace in the later stages during their game with the Lady Black Knights Friday night inside Chuckey-Doak High School.

Led by a 22-point game by Taylor Southerland, the Lady Knights used a late-game push to pick up a 53-47 non-conference win.

Hampton was flying high in the first quarter as the Lady Bulldogs’ Shyanne Tuelle rained in three 3-pointers which added to her 13 points for the period. Behind Tuelle’s attack the Lady Bulldogs took a 20-8 lead into the second period.

Hampton’s lead did not last as the Lady Black Knights used a 9-2 run to chisel the Lady ’Dogs lead down to four points. A buzzer-beating three by C-D’s Southerland sent the team to the locker rooms with Hampton holding a miniscule 25-24 edge.

The Lady Knights started the third quarter with a bucket and a three to climb out ahead 41-38 with six minutes left in the quarter. However, the Lady Bulldogs answered with a 10-2 rally to give them a 33-31 lead with roughly 3 minutes to play in the period. Hampton’s Hope Bridgeman rained in a three, which was quickly answered by a three from C-D’s Candy Majors closing Hampton’s lead to just one point heading into the final quarter.

C-D started out the fourth quarter with an 8-point run to climb out ahead 51-40 with 2:22 left in the game. Hampton’s Kinzey Hill ended the Lady Knights’ drive with a three to close the gap to 51-43. The Lady Bulldogs could only muster four points in the final minute.
