After giving up five runs in the top of third, the Lady Warriors were never able to catch up with the Daniel Boone Lady Trail Blazers Monday at Cannon Gouge Park.
Trailing 5-4 in the bottom of the seventh, Happy Valley could not muster the run needed to send the game into extra innings as the Lady Blazers used defense to hold on for a one-point win.
Things started out in Happy Valley’s favor as the Lady Warriors posted two runs in the bottom of the first. Both Emily Whitaker and Kalee Johnson made it to base off singles before coming home off a deep ball by Kenzie Davis that was dropped by DB’s middle fielder.
After Daniel Boone’s flood of runs in the top of the third, the Lady Warriors kept themselves in contention with a pair of their own. From third, Whitaker scored again off a play from Davis, who drove a grounder toward first and was tagged out. Johnson scrambled on home in the third to give Happy Valley its last run of the game.
From the plate for Happy Valley, both Johnson and Whitaker were 2-of-3 with two runs each. Davis went 1-of-3 with three RBIs and one double. Bailey Hardin also went 2-of-3 with an RBI.
Hardin worked on the mound for the opening three innings for Happy Valley before Johnson relieved her in the fourth. Johnson closed things up while tossing three strikes out, while only allowing the Lady Blazers one hit.
The Lady Warriors will pick things up with a trip to Johnson County today.
