JOHNSON CITY — Her journey began February 14, 1922 in Buladean, N.C., and ended April 16, 2016 when she reached her heavenly home.
Daughter, sister, wife, and mother… she honored her late parents, Vick and Ada Campbell, and cherished that memory of her siblings, A.T. Campbell and Pauline Gouge. She spent the last 13 years of her life mourning the loss of her husband, C.L. Ledford. She was also preceded in death by her daughter-in-law, Janice Ledford.
She is survived by the children, grandsons and great-granddaughters she loved: her son, Lawrence; her daughter, Betty and husband, Carl; grandsons, Brad and wife, Linda, and Brian and wife, Sandra; and great-granddaughters, Hannah, Savannah and Ella.
As a young adult she moved from North Carolina to Baltimore, Md., where she worked at Martin Marietta Aircraft. In the early ’60s she and her family relocated to Johnson City, Tenn. She retired from the Remnant Shop.
Marie was a faithful member of Sinking Creek Baptist Church. She and dear friends were members of the Ruth Sunday School Class. She shared many years working with and at her church with her dearest friend, Hazel Gwaltney.
A sincere thank you to The Center on Aging and Health staff, especially the Special Care staff and facility Nursing Director, Shelia Ruston.
Marie devoted her life to God, family and hard work. She enjoyed being outdoors and visits from her family and neighbors in The Meadows. She will truly be missed.
The funeral service will be held at Morris-Baker Funeral Home, 2001 Oakland Avenue, Johnson City, on Tuesday, April 19, at 7 p.m. with Pastors Garry Edwards and Kevin Laws officiating. The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. until the service time. Interment will be Wednesday, April 20, at 1 p.m. at Roselawn Memory Gardens, 3033 South Roan Street, Johnson City. Flowers are accepted and appreciated or memorials may be made to Sinking Creek Baptist Church, 2313 Elizabethton Highway, Johnson City, TN 37601.
