Evening entertainment at Covered Bridge Park is receiving an extra addition in the coming weeks.
Elizabethton Parks and Recreation and Elizabethton Lions Club are partnering to present the second annual Show on the Doe movie night Saturday, Aug. 26, to serve as the curtain call for the seasonal Covered Bridge Jams concert series.
“Last year we had a fantastic crowd,” David Nanney, recreation manager at Parks & Rec, told the Elizabethton Star Wednesday. “We’re anticipating this year’s crowd to be even larger.”
Residents are encouraged to take part in the free event, which gets underway at 7 p.m. with Fiddlin’ Carson Peters taking the stage for the conclusion of the Covered Bridge Jams.
“This will be our last night of the concert series,” Nanney said. “We’re very appreciative of the support from the community for this year. We only had a couple of rainouts and we were able to provide a variety of music each Saturday.”
At the conclusion of the concert, the public is invited to stay for the showing of a kid-friendly movie, Nanney added. The public is encouraged to bring a chair or blanket to sit on during the evening.
Another added element to the event is the partnership with the Lions Club, Nanney added. During the event, the organization will host a concession stand featuring pizza, popcorn and other refreshments. Proceeds raised from the concession stand will go toward various countywide projects undertaken by the Lions Club.
“The partnerships with organizations are important,” Nanney said. “Lions Club does a tremendous job in the community and this is a win-win for both groups. We want to thank them for the work with this project, too.”
Seeing the success from last year was the overriding factor of seeing the movie night being a continual event, Nanney said. Parks & Rec is actively working on upcoming events for the community, including the Tweetsie Trail Treasure Trip scheduled for September 2.
Nanney also encouraged the public to take in the sights and sounds of downtown prior to the event. Weather pending, the Carter County Car Club’s Cruise-In event will be underway in the evening along with a slew of downtown businesses being open to the public.
Prior to August 26, citizens are invited to take part in the remaining concerts at Covered Bridge Park, which last from 7 to 9 p.m. each Saturday night.
Upcoming performances include:
• Saturday, Aug. 12 – Lauren Cole Band
• Saturday, Aug. 19 – Sacred Journey
