An inmate at the Carter County Detention Center now has a new conviction on his record after officers say he exposed himself to an officer in the jail.

On Monday, deputies of the Carter County Sheriff’s Office charged Savyon Prather, 19, 2014 East I St., Elizabethton, with one count of indecent exposure.

According to documents, Deputy Cynthia Davis was collecting breakfast trays from D Block in the detention center when the incident occurred.

“Upon entering the block, I announced that a female was in the block and I was going to collect trays to get them ready. I was also passing out laundry at that time as well,” Davis said. “Working my way around the block I came to Cell number 2 that is occupied by inmate Savyon Prather. Not having any laundry I passed the cell up.”

“At this time inmate Prather said, ‘Mrs. Davis, you forgot my napkin,’” Davis said. “I turned around to get it. When I turned toward the cell inmate Prather was standing at his door. The pie flap to the door was down, and inmate Prather had his male genitalia in his hand, holding it so that I would be able to see it.”

Davis said she notified her supervisor Cpl. Jessie Hodges of the incident. Hodges filed a police report on the incident and obtained a warrant charging Prather with indecent exposure.

Prather appeared in Carter County General Sessions Court on Tuesday and was arraigned on the charge. Judge Keith Bowers Jr. appointed the Public Defender’s Office to represent Prather.

After speaking with his attorney, Prather entered a guilty plea to the charge of indecent exposure. Bowers sentenced him to 15 days in jail and ordered him to pay a $50 fine and court costs.
