Carter County Schools took home top honors during the weekend’s Johnson City Area Home Builders Association “Build of the Build” competition held at the East Tennessee State University Mini-Dome. The victory gave the students a first place check worth $1,000.

Students from Unaka, Hampton, Cloudland and Happy Valley high school CTE programs joined together to form a Carter County-based team and competed against five other high schools – Elizabethton, David Crockett, Unicoi County, Science Hill and Daniel Boone.

Carter County was able to take home first place with their project – a chicken coop – which could house roughly 16 chickens and proved to be a suitable living space for poultry.

Daniel Arnett, Scotty Johnson, Sam Potter and James Monroe were the instructors that led the students in the project. For the contest, the students were sponsored by Isaacs Pools & Spas and received help from different outlets, including Lowe’s of Elizabethton.
