Author Debbie Macomber donates books to local nursing home resident

Ann is an avid reader, and she along with other residents have found reading as a fun way to spend their confined days during the coronavirus pandemic.

Ann Forsythe, a resident of Signature Health Care of Elizabethton Rehab and Wellness Center, is an avid reader. She is also a big fan of Debbie Macomber, an American author of romance novels and contemporary women’s fiction.
Recently, Forsythe who had read Macomber’s book “Starting Now” from her Blossom Street series, wrote Macomber. In return, Forsythe was pleasantly surprised with a box of 17 books from Macomber — books that Macomber asked her to share with her friends at Signature Care.
“Ann is a wonderful person. She is all the time sending cards and shares books with her fellow residents. Reading has become quite popular among some of our residents during the coronavirus pandemic when residents have been locked down and have been unable to have visitors,” said Roberta Campbell, Quality of Life Director at Signature.
Ann, who was honored by Signature as a 2018 entry into Signature’s Hall of Fame Cafe, is a University of Tennessee graduate and a former physical education teacher and Great Smoky Mountains Park Ranger.
The 80-year-old nursing home resident taught at the Culleoka Elementary School and the Lawrence County Christian School. After teaching and serving as a park ranger at Cades Cove, she managed several apartment complexes.
Ann is a member of Memorial Presbyterian Church and is the mother of Kerry Campbell, Kendall Baker, and Elizabeth Forsythe.
In addition to reading, Ann enjoys the outdoors, and hiking was at one time a favorite thing to do. Her love for flowers and trees is shared with a daughter. She also enjoys UT football and basketball.
Campbell said Ann was surprised to receive an answer to her letter, and even more surprised by Macomb’s gift of books to share with her nursing home friends.
Macomber’s latest book release was “A Walk Along the Beach” and she also has a book to be released in October, “Jingle All The Way.”
“You can bet these are on Ann’s list to read,” said Campbell.
“Ann is such a thoughtful, interesting, and smart person. She is well-loved by our staff as well as by many of the residents,” Campbell added.
