Full grant funding from the federal government will allow Family Promise of Greater Johnson City to continue its “Families Moving Home” program, which helps homeless families find housing.
“The Families Moving Home program will assure that families who have progressed through our training and support will have an opportunity to obtain suitable and safe housing,” said Agnes B. Samples, executive director of Family Promise.
HUD announced on Tuesday that Family Promise will receive $88,416 for the next fiscal year – part of HUD’s support of 7,100 projects that provide housing and support services for the homeless across the United States.
The announcement was made by Shaun Donovan, HUD secretary. The funds are provided through HUD’s Continuum of Care Program, and are administered locally through the Appalachian Region Coalition for Homelessness.
Family Promise of Greater Johnson City works with about 50 local congregations to provide support for homeless families with children, helping them as they move toward a stable and independent life.
Family Promise of Greater Johnson City works with a diverse base of congregations for more than 13 years to support homeless families with children.
Family Promise is the only program in the region that seeks to keep homeless families and children together while seeking to stabilize the entire family.
