Authorities say a still was seized from a home on Minton Hollow Road after Carter County deputies responded to the address for a child welfare check.
Deputy Roger Brown wrote in the incident report that he and Lt. Derrick Hamm responded to the home at 175 Minton Hollow Road Tuesday after receiving a complaint about the welfare of a small child.
On arrival at the home, a female resident allowed officers inside to conduct the check. While Brown reported all children in the residence appeared to be in good health, and the home had running water and food, he said there was a copper still sitting in plain view in the home.
Brown said the still had all components, including a mash barrel, thumper keg, worm and cap assembly in the master bedroom of the residence. Beside the still were several five-gallon water bottles, which he wrote could possibly be used for “mash bottles.”
The complete still was taken from the home and logged into evidence at the Carter County Sheriff’s Department with a referral to the Criminal Investigation Division for a follow-up review.
