The Elizabethton/Carter County Tourism Council will be offering a sample of local talent during a special event on Friday to mark National Tourism Week.
Tourism Coordinator Carl Brickey IV said the event was a “thank you” to both the citizens of Carter County and the visitors that make stops in the county.
“It is our way of saying thank you to the residents for making Carter County the tourist destination that it is,” Brickey said. “For the tourists that stop in, it is a thank you for coming to visit.”
The celebration will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Elizabethton/Carter County Chamber of Commerce this Friday, May 9.
The event will feature live music by Ben Bateson and Kathryn Brickey. Carl Brickey said he would be joining his wife and friend for some of the musical performances.
A wood carver from Butler will be on hand doing demonstrations. Local author Michael Manuel will be available to sign copies of his book “Fish Springs: Beneath the Surface” that was co-authored with Lawrence Timbs Jr.
Brickey said there would also be free hot dogs which come with tickets to win door prizes from the Arts Depot in the Chamber of Commerce.
“We want to give back and thank people for making Carter County a tourist destination,” Brickey said.
The first full week of May is annually recognized as National Travel and Tourism Week, a tradition first celebrated in 1984, established by a Congressional joint resolution passed in 1983. Wednesday was National Tourism Day.
