Monroe Winters, 70, Kingsport, died Sunday, June 22, 2014, at Holston Manor.
Monroe was born in Roan Mountain, Tenn., and had lived in the Kingsport area for 25 years. He was of the Pentecostal faith and served as deacon of the Church of Jesus Christ for 24 years. Monroe retired from Holston Valley Medical Center.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy Winters; parents, Mary and Mark Winters; and brothers, Earnest Winters and Dave Winters.
Monroe is survived by son, Adam McMurray and wife, Tonya of Fall Branch; close brother and caretaker, Roosevelt Winters and wife, Pearlie of Kingsport; sister, Texie Winters and husband, Wilt Johnson of Elizabethton; special nieces, Wendy Crawford and husband, Richard of Kingsport, and Bonnie Carr and husband, Jason of Taylorsville, N.C.; grandson, Josh McMurray; granddaughter, Cheyanne McMurray; and great-grandson, A.J. McMurray.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, June 25, at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport. Funeral services will follow at 7 p.m. with Pastor Raymond Hammonds officiating. The graveside service will be held on Thursday at 10 a.m. in the Hermon United Methodist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be family and friends.
