Jerry Eugene Hubbard, 72, of Elizabethton, passed away Wednesday, June 25, 2014, at Johnson City Medical Center following an extended illness.
A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late James Arthur and Elsie Mae Merritt Hubbard.
Jerry was a graduate of Hampton High School. He served in the United States Navy Seabees during the Vietnam Era. He was a retired electrician.
Jerry attended Valley Forge Free Will Baptist Church. In earlier years he was involved with the Little League Baseball. His hobbies were his grandchildren and woodworking. He was a Lady Vols Fan.
Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Loretta Norman Hubbard; two sons and daughters-in-law, Gregory Allen and Angela Kay Hubbard and James David and Lori Ann Hubbard, all of Elizabethton; two grandchildren, Cole David and Jonah Reece Hubbard; a sister and brother-in-law, Charlotte and Don Hathaway, Elizabethton; and his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Carl and Lola Briggs, John and Judy Ashley and Phil and Pam Gentry. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services for Mr. Hubbard will be conducted at 8 p.m. Thursday, June 26, at Valley Forge Free Will Baptist Church with the Rev. Randy Johnson and the Rev. Mark Potter officiating. Graveside services and interment will be at 10:45 a.m. Friday, June 27, in the Mountain Home National Cemetery. Active pallbearers, who are requested to assemble at the church at 7:50 p.m. Thursday and also at the funeral home at 10 a.m. Friday, will be Phil Gentry, John Ashley, Pete Perry, Keith Foster, Jerry Warner and O.B. Foster. Honorary pallbearers will be Carl Briggs, Don Hathaway and Dr. Pandian. Military Honors will be provided by the American Legion. To those who prefer, memorials may be made in memory of Jerry to the Young at Heart Sunday School Class, c/o Valley Forge Free Will Baptist Church, 1503 Riverview Drive, Elizabethton, TN 37643. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Valley Forge Free Will Baptist Church. Friends may also visit with the family at the residence.
