Daniel M. Smith, 86, of Elizabethton, passed away on Thursday, July 3, 2014, at Johnson City Medical Center.
He was born on May 19, 1928 in Carter County, Tenn., where he had lived his entire life. He worked for the city of Elizabethton and at Inland Container Company where he retired.
Dan never met a stranger and enjoyed talking with his many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Hamilton and Mary Elizabeth Angel Smith; brothers, Caleb (Jr.) Smith, George Smith, Jack Smith and Wade Smith; and sisters, Alice Presnell, Margaret Nicely and Wanda Potter. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family in his generation.
Survivors include Betty Smith, of the home; son, Johnny N. Smith and wife Fredna, Jonesborough; sisters-in-law, Ida Smith and Alberta Smith; and several nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to express a special “Thank You” to the staff of Ivy Hall Nursing Home and the staff of the 5500 Wing at Johnson City Medical Center for their kindness and care of Dan.
A graveside service for Mr. Smith will be held Saturday, July 5, in the Highland Cemetery, Elizabethton, with Rev. Jim Johnson officiating. Family and friends wishing to attend the service should plan on arriving at the cemetery no later than 10:50 a.m. Condolences may be e-mailed to mfc@chartertn.net.
