Glenda Shankle Eggers

Glenda Shankle Eggers, 68, of Elizabethton, passed away Saturday, July 5, 2014, at her residence following an extended illness.
A native of Carter County, she was a daughter of the late Clyde and Florence Ellis Shankle.
Glenda was a 1963 graduate of Unaka High School. She worked for a number of years at S.H. Kress Company and retired as manager from Unaka Elementary Cafeteria. She was a member of Unaka Baptist Church, where she was a former Sunday School Teacher of the Pre-School Class.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by four brothers, Ralph, Don, Charles and Jerry Shankle, and two sisters, Billie Jean McCloud and Betty “Susie” Varner.
Survivors include her husband of 42 years, Jimmy Eggers; a brother and sister-in-law, Kenneth “Sneed” and Lucy Shankle, Elizabethton; a brother-in-law, Tom McCloud; and two sisters-in-law, Shirlee Shankle and Ann Shankle. Several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews and one great-great-nephew also survive.
Funeral services for Mrs. Eggers will be conducted at 8 p.m. Tuesday, July 8, at Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Walker Roberson and the Rev. Roger Haley officiating. Music will be provided by Kirk Carrier and Sheila Nidiffer. Graveside services and interment will be at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 9, in the Mountain Home National Cemetery with the Rev. David Ward and Mr. Doug Rasnick officiating. Active pallbearers, who are requested to assemble at the funeral home at 10:45 a.m. Wednesday, will be Kirk, Andrew, Chris and Josh Shankle, Donald McCloud and Mike McCloud. Honorary pallbearers will be Tom McCloud, Gary Grindstaff, Nathan Lescarbeau, members of Unaka Baptist Church and the 1963 Graduating Class of Unaka High School. The family would like to express a special “Thank You” to Dr. Charles Famoyin and staff and nurses and staff of Caris Hospice. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Friends may also visit with the family at the residence. Family and friends will assemble at the funeral home at 10:45 a.m. Wednesday to go to the cemetery. Condolences may be e-mailed to mfc@chartertn.net.
