Ruth Gwen Chambers

Ruth Gwen Chambers, age 79, of Elizabethton, passed away on Sunday, July 13, 2014, in Ivy Hall Nursing Home following an extended illness. Ms. Chambers was a native of Carter County and the daughter of the late Homer and Erma Underwood Renfro.
Ms. Chambers retired as an executive director for Big Brothers/ Big Sisters organization. She was a faithful member of First United Methodist Church where she had taught the King’s Daughters Sunday School Class. She loved playing board and card games with her special friends.
Survivors include her daughter, Cindy West, and husband John, Knoxville; two grandsons: Zachary Edwards and wife Brooke; and Jacob Edwards, all of Knoxville; a brother, Mark Renfro, Tennessee; and three stepchildren, with her former husband, James “E.B.” Aycock: Jeff Aycock and wife Laura, Elizabethton; Gail Clark, New York; and Alison Besch and husband Rick, Huntsville, Ala.
The family will hold a memorial service to honor the life of Ms. Ruth Gwen Chambers at 2 p.m. on Sunday, July 20, 2014, at First United Methodist Church, Elizabethton, with the Rev. Ray Amos officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to First United Methodist Church, 325 East E. Street, Elizabethton, TN 37643.
