Quilting is a hobby requiring considerable hard work and dedication.

The Sycamore Stitchers Quilting Group wants to showcase that work in its 20th Quilt Show.

The show is held each year during early October: this year’s dates are Oct. 2-5.

“Sycamore Stitchers Quilt Show is entering its 20th year, and there is always something new and exciting at each show,” said club member Jeanie Johnson. “Today’s quilters will surely leave a rich legacy for future generations.”

Johnson said the group was looking for “quality quilts” in each of the show’s categories: hand-quilted bed quilts, machine-quilted bed quilts, baby quilts, quilted by a paid service, juvenile/lap quilts, holiday wall hangings, wall hangings, small/miniature wall hangings, the Sycamore Stitchers Challenge and antiques.

This year, the Sycamore Stitchers Challenge is called “20th Anniversary,” with quilts including “20” – 20 blocks, 20 items or the number 20 – at least one pieced block and a 2-inch or more piece of emerald green fabric, which is the 20-year gem color.

“There is always something for everyone,” Johnson said. “The exhibit will showcase talent that will be judged only by the spectators.”

A People’s Choice Award will be given in nine categories excluding antique quilts.

Johnson said entries in the show were limited to one quilt per person due to space constraints at the show site.

There is no fee to enter the Sycamore Stitchers Quilt Show. All entries must comply with the rules and regulations for the show.

Registration forms will be available from Aug. 14 through Sept. 13. Free information and applications can be obtained at the UT Extension Office in Carter County, Sycamore Shoals State Historic Area, the Elizabethton/Carter County Chamber of Commerce and area fabric shops, or by calling Carolyn Buckles at 474-2682 or Johnson at 542-6173.
