Jack Hoilman, 70, of Shallotte, N.C., formerly of Roan Mountain, passed away on Monday, November 24, 2014, in Bolivia, N.C. Jack was born on June 1, 1944 in Avery County, N.C., a son of the late Coyd and Elizabeth Hoilman. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Buck Hoilman, Floyd Hoilman and Lloyd Hoilman; four sisters, Alpha Lee Hughes, Lotus Hughes, Verlane Hoilman and Barbara Young; and one nephew, Brian Ward.
Mr. Hoilman had worked as a lathe operator at Snap-On Tools. He was a former member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in Minneapolis, N.C., a former member of Morgan Branch Freewill Baptist Church in Roan Mountain, and was a current member of Shining Light Missionary Baptist Church in Shallotte, N.C. He was a world renowned conversationalist and enjoyed being a witness for the Lord. He loved to hunt and can, especially apple butter.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Hoilman, of the home; a son, Brian Hoilman and wife Cindy, Roan Mountain; two daughters, Becky Burleson and husband Ray, Marion, N.C., and Jada Grindstaff and husband Chris, Roan Mountain; six grandchildren, Maekayla Burleson, Joshua Burleson, Patrick Burleson, Kimberly Burleson, Laura Hoilman and Cody Grindstaff; three brothers, Ted Hoilman, Fred Hoilman and Herman Hoilman; and two sisters, Nora Johnson and Sharon Ward.
A service to honor the life of Jack Hoilman will be conducted at 7 p.m. Friday, November 28, in the Rhododendron Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home, Roan Mountain, with Pastor Robert Carland officiating. Music will be under the direction of the Melody Trio. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, prior to the service. The graveside service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday, November 29, in the Whitaker Branch Cemetery in Frank, N.C. Active pallbearers will be B.J. Hughes, Ben Hughes, Teddy Ray Hoilman, G.C. Young, Michael Hughes, Carson Belisle and Dalton Hughes. Honorary pallbearers will be Jonathan Hughes, Julis Hughes, Tony Hoilman, Michael Hoilman, Junior Hoilman, Chad Hoilman, Gary Young, Dale Young, Terry Young, Pete Davis, Patrick Ward, Nathan Hoilman, Tim Thomas, Steven Thomas, Chad Guinn, Derrick Guinn, Joel Guinn, Mark Guinn, Chris Guinn, Harold Guinn, Pat Guinn, James Guinn, Travis Woodie, Danny Woodie, Jerry Montgomery and Jake Cook. Those wishing to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at the cemetery at 9:50 a.m. Saturday.
