Ruby Irene Grindstaff Hicks

Ruby Irene Grindstaff Hicks, 79, Elizabethton, passed away Monday, December 1, 2014, at her residence following an extended illness.
A native of Carter County, she was a daughter of the late Alfred and Etta Pierce Grindstaff.
Mrs. Hicks was a 1951 graduate of Unaka High School. She enjoyed quilting and sewing. She was a member of Stoney Creek Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne Joe Hicks, November 24, 2007, and a brother, Art Grindstaff.
Survivors include a daughter, Diane Cannon and husband Steve, Elizabethton; a son, Steve Hicks and his fiancée Jackie Boone, Elizabethton; two grandchildren, Emily Cannon, Elizabethton, and Jacob Cannon and wife Kati, New Bern, N.C.; four sisters, Chrystal Hicks and Darlene Hampton, both of Elizabethton, Cleta Mae Kyte and Pat Guinn, both of Johnson City; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Howard and Margaret Grindstaff, Glen and Judy Grindstaff and Dean and Floy Grindstaff, all of Elizabethton; several nieces and nephews; her sister-in-law, Mary Evelyn Hicks, Johnson City; her special friends, C.H. and Margie Lewis; and her loving caregiver, Susan Kyte.
Funeral services for Mrs. Hicks will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday, December 4, at Memorial Funeral Chapel with Dr. Kenneth Jordan officiating. Music will be provided by Debbie Woods. Interment will follow in the Grindstaff Cemetery. Pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. The family would like to express a special “Thank You” to Amedisys Hospice Staff. The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, prior to the service. To those who prefer, memorials may be made in memory of Mrs. Hicks to the Alzheimer’s Association, 207 N.
