Darlene Hampton, 69, of Elizabethton, passed away on Tuesday, December 2, 2014, at her residence.
Mrs. Hampton was a native of Carter County and a daughter of the late Alfred and Etta Pierce Grindstaff. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Hampton; a brother, Art Grindstaff; a sister, Ruby Hicks; four brothers-in-law, Lewis Hicks, Wayne Hicks, Jim Kyte and Burl Guinn; and a sister-in-law, Joyce Lipford.
Mrs. Hampton was a homemaker and a member of Centerview Church of Christ.
Survivors include a daughter, Becky Wagner and husband Rick; a son, Todd Hampton and wife Christine; three grandchildren, Rachel Wagner, Michael Wagner and Rikki Wagner; three sisters, Crystal Hicks, Cleta Mae Kyte and Pat Guinn; three brothers, Howard Grindstaff and wife Margaret, Dean Grindstaff and wife Flo and Glen Grindstaff and wife Judy; two brothers-in-law, Joel Hampton and wife Sue, and Jimmy Lipford; and a sister-in-law, Phyllis Young. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
A service to honor the life of Darlene Hampton will be conducted at 7 p.m. Friday, December 5, at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, with Mr. David Irick, Mr. Tony Hoss and Mr. Dennis Wilson, ministers, officiating. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, prior to the service, or at the residence at anytime. The graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, December 6, in the Centerview Church of Christ Cemetery, Coal Chute Road, Elizabethton. Active pallbearers will be Jason Guinn, Brian Moore, David Grindstaff, Dexter Adkins, Steve Cannon, Glenn Sams, Brad Grindstaff, Steve Hicks, Gary Grindstaff, Jimmy Carr, Ronnie Hicks and Daniel Grindstaff. Those wishing to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, at 10:30 a.m. Saturday to go in procession.
