Kenneth Edward Mathes

Kenneth Edward Mathes, 57, of Sulphur Springs, Tenn., went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, December 2, 2014.
He was a son of Carroll A. and Betty Jo Mathes, born on December 17, 1956, in Elizabethton, Tenn.
Mr. Mathes enjoyed fishing, playing guitar, making people laugh and riding his motorcycle.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, William and Emma Mathes; maternal grandparents, Mary Jenkins and Jason Hill; granddaughter, Annastasian Mathes; and stepson, Dustin Shawn Baker.
He is survived by his fiancée of eight years, Viola Baker, of the residence; six children, Jonathan and wife Heather Woods, Michael Mathes, Robert Mathes, Casey Mathes and fiancée Julia Peters and Sasha Mathes, all of Ulysses, Kansas, and Starla Mathes of Elizabethton; stepdaughter, Candace and husband Ujay Tomkollie of Gray, Tenn.; 14 grandchildren; three brothers, Allen and wife Holly Mathes of Ulysses, Kansas, Joseph and Robert Mathes of Elizabethton; sisters, Mary and husband Rick Klein, Donna and husband Joey Meadows of Ulysses, Kansas, and Melinda Peirce of Elizabethton; and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at Sulphur Springs Methodist Church, 1432 Gray Station, Sulphur Springs Road, Jonesborough, Tenn., on Friday, December 5, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. with Pastor Ralph Jeffers officiating. Special music will be played by Rhoda Jane Meadows. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Sulphur Springs Methodist Church.
