Robert C. “Bob” Finney, age 86, of 109 Tilson Avenue, Hampton, passed away on Tuesday, December 9, 2014 at Johnson City Medical Center. He was a native of Carter County and the son of the late Robert Andrew Finney and Floria Hatley Finney. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Helen Stevens Finney.
Mr. Finney was a 1947 graduate of Hampton High School and a United States Army veteran, having served in the Korean Conflict. He was an active member of the Oak Street Baptist Church of Elizabethton. Mr. Finney was a member of Hampton Masonic Lodge F& AM #750, the Elizabethton Shrine Club, and the Jericho Shriners. He was very active in the Shrine Paper sale.
He was a charter member of the Inter-Mountain Pioneer Club. Mr. Finney retired from United Telephone after 38 years of service.
Survivors include a son, Steven Finney; two grandchildren, Lauren Grace Finney and Andrew Steven Finney, all of Johnson City; one sister-in-law, Gale Stevens Finney; and nephews, Keynan and Kent Phillips, of North Carolina; his special friends, Mike McKinney and Rachel White.
The family requests the comfort and honor of your presence at the Celebration of the Life service for Mr. Robert C. “Bob” Finney at 7:00 PM on Friday, December 12, 2014 in the Chapel of Peace at Tetrick Funeral Home of Elizabethton, with Rev. Bruce Hendrich and Mr. Jerry Stout, officiating. Music will be under the direction of Carol Roberts and Lauren Finney. The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM in the funeral home chapel, prior to the service on Friday.
The graveside and interment will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Saturday, December 13, 2014 in the Patton-Simmons Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Charles Cutlip, Mike McKinney, Herman Tolley, Billy Jack Tolbert, L.B Shatley, Jerry Slemp, Will Andrews and Gene Orfield.
Honorary pallbearers will be Don McKeehan, David Pinkard, Stacy Street, Johnny Ledford, Danny Miller, Richard “Jar Fly” Dugger, Ernie Cline, Ogden Moore, and Keith Tolley. Those wishing to attend the service are asked to meet at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton at 10:00 AM on Saturday, to go in procession.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the Staff of Hermitage Health Care Center for all the love and care extended to Mr. Finney during his illness.
In lieu of flowers, give a donation to the Shriner’s Children’s Hospital, in memory of Mr. Finney.
