Charles Ray Teter

Charles Ray Teter, 84, of Watauga, went home to be with his Lord on Monday, December 22, 2014, from his residence, following an extended illness.
Mr. Teter was born in Wymer, W.Va., a son of the late Riley Hugh Teter and Beatrice Flanagan Teter Helmick. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Betty June Byrd Teter; a sister, Margaret Pinkard; and a half brother, Charles Helmick Jr.
Mr. Teter was a former resident of Cleveland, Ohio, from 1952-1990, but had lived in Carter County since 1990. He retired from the United Postal Service in Cleveland, Ohio, after 30 years of service. He was a member of Grace Baptist Church and was a United States Army veteran, having served in the Korean Conflict.
Survivors include his wife of 28 years, Ann Boone Teter, of the home; two sons, Charles Ray Teter Jr. and wife Janie, Lexington, Ky., and Bruce Lee Teter and wife Tammy, Las Vegas, Nev.; a brother, Richard Lee Teter and wife Rose, Piedmont, S.C.; a sister, Grace Louise Teter, Marlow Heights, Md.; four half sisters, Joan Riggleman, Mabie, W.Va., Joyce Harper, Elkins, W.Va., Sharlene Helmick, Clarksburg, W.Va., and Gloria Patraskas and husband Charles, Grimsted, Va.; a step-son, Randal Winters and wife Rose, Ormand Beach, Fla.; two step-daughters, Tina Kurgan and husband Mike, Rocky River, Ohio, and Carla Winters and husband Bob, Cleveland, Ohio; two granddaughters, Robin Voss and husband Paul, Danville, Ky., and Molly Ann Teter, Lexington, Ky.; a grandson, Kevin Lee Tyler, Las Vegas, Nev.; seven great-grandchildren; eight step-grandchildren; and several step-great-grandchildren. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
A service to honor the life of Charles Ray Teter will be conducted at 7 p.m. Friday, December 26, in the Chapel of Peace at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, with Rev. Dean Smith and Rev. Ron Owens officiating. Music will be under the direction of Rev. Chris Hughes and Tonia Hughes. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, prior to the service, or at the residence at anytime. Honorary pallbearers will be the Adult Men’s II, Leonard Peters’ Sunday School Class. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. David Freeman, Dr. Jeff Farrow, Dr. David Beaird and Dr. Collier Jordan for the love and care shown to Mr. Teter during his illness. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Mountain States Hospice, 2335 Knob Creek Road, Suite 101, Johnson City, TN 37604. Mr. Teter will be transferred to the Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins, W.Va., for visitation and funeral services to be conducted on Sunday, December 28, with interment to follow in the Mountain State Memorial Gardens in Elkins, W.Va., with military honors.
