Richard Steven “Stevie” Kyker

Richard Steven “Stevie” Kyker, 62, of Elizabethton, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, January 3, 2015, at Johnson City Medical Center following an extended illness.
He was born in Carter County and was the son of the late Robert S. and Elsie Dugger Kyker. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Richard Stevie Kyker II; his maternal grandparents, George and Alice Bailey; and his paternal grandmother, Eva Kyker.
Mr. Kyker was retired from Norwell, Inc. and was of the Freewill Baptist Faith. He loved to watch NASCAR and spend time with his buddies.
He is survived by his wife, Nina LaScola Kyker, of the home; a grandchild, Richard Steven, Elizabethton; two brothers, Eddie Kyker and his wife, Joan, Elizabethton, and Lynn Kyker, Elizabethton; a sister, Karen Booher and her husband, Glenn, Elizabethton; a special niece, Amy Perry, Elizabethton; two nephews, Eddie Kyker Jr. and Alan Kyker, both of Elizabethton; a great-nephew, Bobby Kyker, Elizabethton; and a very special aunt, Mary Calhoun, who had been by his side and taken care of his fur baby Peebles throughout his illness. He is also survived by other aunts and uncles, Cleo Kelly, Betty Ford, Julian Bailey and Stanley Bailey. Several cousins also survive.
The service to honor the life of Richard Steven “Stevie” Kyker will be conducted at 7 p.m. Wednesday, January 7, in the Sunset Chapel of Hathaway-Percy Funeral and Cremation Services with Rev. Steve Burleson officiating. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, prior to the service, or at the home at other times. The graveside service and interment will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, January 8, at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be Benny Loveless, Danny “Yogi” Curtis, Jerry Thompson, John Pansock, Mikie Maljeet Hayer, Steve McQueen and Albert Oliver. Honorary pallbearers will be Jerry Griffey, Bobby Wright, Eddie Wright, Bill Smitty, Tony Oaks, Sam Hopson and Gene Bowman. Those wishing to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at the funeral home at 10:15 a.m. Thursday to go in procession to the cemetery.
