Helen Ruth Sams, 85, of Elizabethton, passed away Monday, January 19, 2015, at Sycamore Shoals Hospital.
A native of Carter County, she was a daughter of the late Edgar G. and Callie Miller Sams.
Helen was a retired employee of North American Rayon Corporation. She was a member of Roan Street Church of God.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Georgia Blevins, Mary Nell Carroll and Dorothy Sams; two brothers, Floyd and J.L. Sams; and a grandson, Steven David Melton.
Survivors include her children, Steven Melton, Michael Melton, Brenda Johnson, Lisa Stanbery, Glenn Hatley and Scott Hatley; four grandchildren, Mark Keene, Chris Stanbery, Vance Melton and Dan Melton; a great-granddaughter, Haley Keene; and two brothers, Rev. Bob Sams and Gerald Sams. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services for Helen Ruth Sams will be conducted at noon Thursday, January 22, at Memorial Funeral Chapel with Pastor Ken Bewley officiating. The Eulogy will be given by Michael Melton. Interment will follow in the Colbaugh Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Mark Keene, Chris Stanbery, Walter “Max” Sams, Keith Blevins, Michael Melton and Glenn Hatley. Honorary pallbearers will be Jerry Jamison, Mike Moore, Benny Colbaugh, Steve Stout, Randy Colbaugh, Bobby Colbaugh and Herman Colbaugh.
